Full Match Highlights from Qualifier 1 of IPL 2012 between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders played on May-22-2012 at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune
After beating the Pune Warriors in their last league match at the Subrata Roy Sahara stadium in Pune, the Knights were eager to get on the pitch for their qualifier match against the Delhi Daredevils at the same venue. A win in this game would take the Knights through to their first IPL final in five seasons and they looked determined to get there with a good performance. The stands in Pune were packed with an eager crowd ready to watch the top two teams in this season’s tournament battle it out. The Knights made just one change to their squad from the previous game, with allrounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla coming in for Manoj Tiwary.
Gambhir won the toss and chose to bat on what was predicted to be a difficult batting pitch. McCullum and Gambhir opened the innings for the Knights and they got off to a great start, with Gambhir taking the initiative to hit the big shots by stepping out and smashing the Delhi pacers all over the park. Gambhir raced away to 32 off just 16 deliveries before he was run out off a direct hit from Rao. Kallis and McCullum then made preservation of wickets their main priority as they steadied the Knight’s innings. The Knights seemed to be in some trouble when McCullum and Shakib were dismissed in successive overs with the team still some distance from setting a good total. Kallis was dismissed in the 16th over just as he started to pick up the pace. It was then the turn of Yusuf Pathan and Shukla to take over and accelerate the Knight’s innings. The pair managed to score 36 runs off the last 2 overs with both of them taking the attack to the bowlers. Shukla scored 24 runs off just 11 balls and Pathan found his explosive form at a crucial stage to finish on 40 off 21 balls as the Knights posted a formidable total of 162 in 20 overs.
